Discussed concerns about classroom evacuations; who keeps track of evacuations?

What should a teacher do when a student is causing need for evacuation?

Some schools have a crisis response team to help with unregulated students

Discipline rules apply to ALL students who break Ed Code

Manifestation Determination Meetings are for students with IEP’s/504’s who reach 10 days of suspension; determine whether or not the behavior was a result of their disability; develop steps to go through to support student

Concerns about lack of communication when a student is moved schools due to discipline, with or without an IEP/504

Ed Code 48910; can suspend ANY student who violates this Ed Code

Use MTSS to help support students

Concerns about SPED MOU days being consumed by trainings

Proposal of middle school SPED teachers getting 2 preps will not decrease their pay; working hours remain the same

Concerns about hiring SPED teachers without any credentials; it’s a problem nation-wide

Discussion about wording of ratification

Once a tentative agreement has been reached, both sides of the teams need to be in support and cannot say negative things about the agreement--this is part of the Labor Laws
III. Membership Chair – Nancy Mayer (Email list, Membership Drive)

12 new teachers did not join union

Yevette Reynoso was contacted to get updated list of members; she would not send list to Nancy, but sent list to Jim Lynett

The district’s members list only includes members; it does not include a list of employees

Nancy signed up for a Webinar that is about how to be a Membership Chair; Dec. 10

V. Unfinished business/Updates
a) Negotiations (MOU Secondary SPED, MOU Flamson)

Tentative Agreement was ratified

SPED Taskforce recommends secondary 9-12 SPED MOU, giving those teachers a 2nd prep period to complete duties and will remove MOU days

Discussion regarding appropriate use of extra prep period

We support this MOU for 1 year

MOU proposal at Flamson regarding a teacher getting a zero period prep so they can be off campus early to coach in another district for pay

Concerns about how this agreement came to be

Concerns about the Opportunity program at middle school; no interventions; students released without teacher’s recommendation; need more systems in place to support students and teachers
